Summer "vacation"

First of all, I need to say that I love being a mom, and I am especially proud to be Monica's mom. She is a wonderful, sweet little girl. If it weren't for her, there are sooooo many things and people that Shawn and I would have never known existed.

However, It is NOT EASY to have a child with a disability. Actually, sometimes it is extra difficult and quite overwhelming. I can't even begin to count the number of things Monica has broken, torn apart, lost, cut (her hair), etc., and that's just in the past 3 days. She is becoming more independent. It's impossible to keep an eye on her all day long.

We are blessed with supportive friends and family, but sometimes I think they are so used to Monica that they forget her disability. Of course, that's usually a good thing. It's hard to explain to those who don't have a special needs child. Others depend on us for our time and resources, and they don't understand why we don't always have the time or energy to help.

Sorry, I just had to spill a little bit. If I don't do that every once in a while, I may literally explode, then who would clean up that mess? :D

Monica's blog

Okay, so I'm starting a blog for all our friends to check up on Monica and her brothers and sister. We always have lots of stories to tell, mostly funny. Monica's special education teacher is having a party for her students at her house this week. We're getting excited about that. We are also excited about Lauren's preschool graduation Tuesday night! More soon...
